Évaluation numérique des performances d’un conteneur frigorifique au R134a dans lequel le R1234yf a été utilisé comme substitut à conversion immédiate.

Résumé

Refrigeration equipment manufacturers are now developing their next generation refrigeration units with low GWP refrigerants to reduce the total carbon footprint and energy consumption. Alternatives which balance GWP, flammability and efficiency are being extensively evaluated for different applications. In this paper, the performance of dropping-in R1234yf in a reefer refrigeration unit designed for R134a is numerically assessed. Even though the R1234yf is already widely used in many other applications, its utilization in marine applications is challenging due to the wide operating range of operating conditions (set point from -30°C up to 30°C). The paper presents the analysis of the simulations for different scenarios: operation in extreme conditions, performance sensitivity to evaporator superheat and to the total subcooling. Total subcooling is very high in reefers compared to other applications, leading the unit with R1234yf to deliver even higher capacity, up to 10%, compared to R134a.
