Résumé

A method of ice slurry production by direct injection of the refrigerant into water has been described. The relevant requirements to a commercial introduction of this method in the refrigeration technology have been outlined. With the requirements and necessary process conditions defined, a theoretical evaluation of refrigerants with regard to their energetic and ecological potential for this process has been done with the intention of delimiting the best candidates. Performance has been assessed from a component perspective. The approach has been to consider the operating characteristics of each major component in the refrigerant cycle in isolation and to analyse the effects of refrigerant properties on the performance of the component. It has been concluded that the hydrocarbon R600a best meets the requirements for this ice slurry production system.
