In the context of Türkiye’s commitments under the Kigali Amendment and the growing need to transition away from high-GWP refrigerants in the refrigeration sector, the status and prospects of the hydrocarbon refrigerant supply chain for domestic and commercial refrigeration sectors in Türkiye were examined within a recent study for the Cool Up programme, led by Guidehouse Germany GmbH. Focus was put on hydrocarbons, which are increasingly adopted as alternatives to high-GWP HFCs, as many companies in Türkiye have already introduced hydrocarbon refrigerants in the manufacture of their products. The research assessed the existing supply network as well as barriers to further uptake and opportunities to strengthen the supply chain and to meet rising demand. Stakeholder interviews, review of technical literature, and market analyses were performed. Modelling results illustrate the future market potential for hydrocarbons. Findings aim to inform on approaches that enhance stability of the supply chain, reduce reliance on imports, and accelerate the transition to sustainable refrigeration technologies in Türkiye and beyond.
