Résumé

The convention on Biological Diversity has raised a host of new issues and has specifically identified the need for an international network of independent specialist repositories. These would be required to register and quality control biological cultures transferred across national borders. It is therefore very timely for the promotion of a close relationship between those involved in biodiversity and the international network of culture collections.
