Résumé

This report in the "solutions" series, provides an overview of case studies of transportation in developing countries, identifying common challenges and opportunities for policymakers. According to this report, transportation-related CO2 emissions grew at an annual rate of 5.6% in the developing countries of Asia between 1980 and 1998; the rate of growth for all developing countries was 4%. If current trends continue, the report projects that the number of motor vehicles in use around the world will double in the next 20 to 30 years, with much of the increase occurring in developing nations. The report identifies many inexpensive and attractive options to keep emissions growth to a minimum. A complete copy of this report is available on the Pew Center's Web site: www.pewclimate.org.
