Résumé

Minimising industrial heating and cooling demand via heat recovery is important for reducing global reliance on fossil fuels. Methods such as Total Site Heat Integration (TSHI) can be used to identify heat recovery and heat pumping opportunities, however these methods were designed largely for steady-state industries. There remains room for improvement in non-continuous TSHI methods due to challenges in capturing their varying thermal demands. Time slice methods can help account for the variations, however assigning appropriate time slices for TSHI analysis can prove challenging without in-depth site knowledge. A meat processing case study site is used to investigate a novel time slice TSHI method. This method assigns different operating states to sets of time slices with similar Site Utility Grand Composite curve (SUGCC) features, and successfully identifies several thermal storage and heat pump opportunities that align with both hourly and daily trends on the site.
