Résumé

Procedures to determine controlling parameters of prefreezing and freezing processes of biological tissues are discussed. In the prefreezing process, the concentration of cryoprotectant is raised stepwise to avoid exceeding osmotic stress. The rate of increase of the concentration of cryoprotectant can be chosen by considering the relaxation time of the swell of a biological cell. On the other hand, during the freezing process, the initial concentration of the cryoprotectant and the cooling rate must be determined to avoid exceeding osmotic stress and injury caused by freezing. Optimum parameters can be obtained by estimating the normalized volume of the cell. The maximum possible size of a biological tissue to be cryopreserved can be estimated from the effective thermal diffusivity of the tissue.
