Résumé

Transport is a crucial link in the cold chain, ensuring that food safety and quality are maintained, and preventing food losses. Proper development of the cold chain is essential to meet sustainable development goals (SDGs), which involves expanding infrastructure in underserved areas and adopting state-of-the-art technologies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhance overall environmental sustainability (IIR, 2021). Hot regions often face a lack of cold chain infrastructure, and high temperatures and heat waves increasingly affect moderate temperature areas as well. High ambient temperatures and humidity can negatively impact the performance of transport refrigeration equipment, leading to higher energy consumption. Implementing technical measures such as heavy insulation, correctly sized units, and good maintenance practices can mitigate these issues. The use of natural refrigerants is crucial for long-term sustainability, and tailored solutions based on the specific context can offer new and sustainable opportunities.
