Nouveau système pour l'entreposage frigorifique des céréales.

A novel system for cooling stored grains.

Auteurs : CHEN L., THORPE G. R.

Résumé

About 10% of all food grains that are harvested are ruined by insects and moulds during storage. The paper describes an augmentation of ambient aeration, which uses rotary desiccant wheels, and air-to-air heat exchangers to produce air that has a sufficiently low enthalpy to cool grains to safe storage temperatures. Four case studies are presented. Advanced software for designing aerated grain silos is used for the comparisons. It is found that about 30 and 62 MJ of energy are required to cool one tonne of grain using one- and two-stage desiccant wheel systems.
