The regional centre of apple production is shifting towards Asia, with its share of production in the 1990s increasing from 30 to 40%. China will increase production, along with Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand, and South Africa. Further issues discussed include: competing products, apple trade trends, world trends in apple varieties, international competitiveness, and competitiveness within the USA.
