Résumé

The monitoring of temperatures in the distribution chain has indicated a need to evolve improved protection to the product for better quality assurance. Three recent developments to ameliorate difficulties in temperature control are reviewed: the increased use of port doors for cold stores which protect the product during transfer to and from transport; improved radial distribution vehicles to assist in temperature maintenance; and, the continuing interest in reflective night blinds, and the introduction of temperature performance indicators for retail display cabinets. The port doors and reflective night blinds also offer a reduction in energy consumption with the potential for overall costs savings. The value of time-temperature integrators is also considered.
