Résumé

Space heating and cooling constitute typically 20-30% of the energy demand of a country. Today, people are facing the need to limit energy-related CO2 and refrigerant emissions for the mitigation of global warming. Heat pumps can contribute as much as a 6% reduction in total global CO2 emissions; one of the largest saving potentials for a single technology. Extract from the table of contents: heating and cooling demand and distribution on a per-country basis (degree days, regulations and governmental policies, residential heating and cooling demand, low-energy houses); heating, cooling and ventilation systems (installations for indoor air quality and thermal comfort, heat and cold distribution); comparison of distribution/ventilation systems (criteria for system selection, heating, cooling and dehumidification loads, heat pump system efficiency, energy efficiency, economy); trends; conclusions and recommendations for further work.
