The document summarises the main results and conclusions from the IEA contribution to the G8 Gleneagles Plan of Action for Climate Change, Clean Energy and Sustainable Development. It brings together information on all end-use sectors (industry, households, services, transport) plus power generation, for key developed and developing countries. Using new statistics and methodologies, the analysis clearly identifies the factors driving and restraining the demand for energy, and the opportunities for improved energy efficiency. It also highlights the gaps in currently available data and proposes a major new international effort to improve the availability and quality of information on this crucial topic.
