An experimental investigation into the effect of precooler on open-type display cabinets.

Résumé

In order to improve the performance of the open-type refrigerated display cabinets, a superheater was designed as the precooler of the return air. This paper presents the impacts of the precooler on the performance of the refrigerated display cabinets. In this study, the temperature distribution were tested with an open vertical refrigerated display cabinet in a climatic room in accordance with the British standards EN-441. The experimental results showed that the average product temperature was lowered about 1.3°C and most of the packs were maintained at a temperature below 5°C even though during defrosting time. Furthermore, the investigation of the frost accumulation revealed that the frost was reduced by 2.9% and this new design could lead to significant decrease in the cooling load by19.2% as well as improvements in food quality, nevertheless it also lead to little increase in energy consumption by 5.76%.
