Résumé

Brief history of car air-conditoning. Problems with the use of R134a as a substitute for R12. The author proposes a ternary mixture (R134a-R124-R600). Field tests have shown that this refrigerant can be considered as a better substitute for R12 in the air-conditioning of used cars, taking into account various criteria: thermodynamic properties, adaptability, compatibility with lubricants and materials, safety of use in cars (not inflammable). For new cars, R134a is an excellent substitute for R12. The use of inflammable refrigerants (R600A) should be excluded in any case.
