Continuous measurement of energy efficiency in refrigeration plant.

Auteurs : ZHYVYTSYA V.

Résumé

The paper presents a method to determine how an existing refrigeration system actually works from the viewpoint of its energy consumption A theoretical basis has been developed for monitoring the refrigeration plant performance [including the Coefficient of System Performance (COSP)] without a direct measurement of the refrigerant mass flow rate. Relationships between the parameters of compressor's electrical motor and refrigeration cycle characteristics were determined as a function of the plant operational conditions. This approach permits to deploy a method for in-situ measuring the consumption of electrical energy per unit refrigeration output, refrigeration capacity, total electricity consumption, and for sound-based observation of the plant performance. Due to its simplicity, minimal refrigeration plant disturbance and reasonable accuracy, this method could serve to schedule optimal control strategies for energy savings and to design suitable systems for fault detection and diagnostics (FDD).
