Résumé

In low-temperature environments such as refrigerated warehouses, there has been a high demand for the prevention of condensation in order to avoid staining of cargo due to water damage or mould growth, and slipping accidents due to wet floor surfaces caused by condensation. Some dehumidifiers using the cooling dehumidification/reheating method have been adopted as a measure to prevent condensation, but there is a problem of insufficient dehumidification because defrosting is required in low-temperature environments. Desiccant dehumidifiers, which dehumidify by adsorption dehumidification, have attracted attention in recent years as suitable equipment for dehumidification in low-temperature environments, because they do not generate condensation water and do not cause freezing. However, in large, refrigerated warehouses where waste heat cannot be obtained, the heat source (for regeneration of the adsorbent) has to rely on boilers and electric heaters, etc., which are expected to significantly increase energy consumption so that such system has not been widely used in the past. This paper reports development of desiccant dehumidifier using a CO2 heat pump, which solves these problems, and describes the operating characteristics of the system.
