Résumé

Sapota (sapodilla) fruits received preharvest sprays of 2 or 4% calcium chloride or 2% calcium nitrate, 100 or 200 part per million GA(3) or water, 1 month before harvesting. After harvest, some of the fruits were dipped in the same solutions or in Bavistin (carbendazim) at 1000 part per million for 10 minutes, before storage in polyethylene bags at RT. A combined preharvest spray application and postharvest dip in GA(3) at 100 part per million extended shelf life to 36 days (compared with 8 days in the water-sprayed control), and reduced physiological weight loss and percentage rotting. Postharvest application of Bavistin at 1000 part per million, in addtion to the GA(3) treatments, also extended the shelf life (to 32 days) and further reduced fruit spoilage, but increased fruit acidity, compared with the control treatments (water spray and/or dip).
