Résumé

Classified as a "developed country" by the Montreal Protocol Secretariat, South Africa succeeded in totally phasing out its ozone depleting substance (ODS) production and import by the end of 1996. The country then undergoing a state of political transition, the scope of promulgating legislations and regulations for ODS phase-out was extremely limited and hence the phase out was mostly through self-regulations. The article discusses the route followed by South Africa to comply with Protocol requirements.
