Etude sur les meubles de ventes frigorifiques à bon rendement énergétique dans les supermarchés.

Investigation of energy-efficient supermarket display cases.

Résumé

A major factor affecting design and operation of a supermarket refrigeration system is the cooling load requirements of the display cases that are used throughout the store for the merchandising of perishable food products. Various control methods and technologies exist that are energy efficiency measures (EEMs) that could be applied to display cases and result in the reduction of the refrigeration load and of the energy consumption of the refrigeration system. Recognizing the importance of energy-efficiency in commercial refrigeration, a research project was initiated to investigate the potential for energy savings through the implementation of EEMs in display cases. The projectidentified a number of near-term measures that could be applied to display cases and gathered the data to evaluate these measures in terms of their impact on supermarket refrigeration energy consumption. The EEMs fell into three categories, which were improvements in: the evaporator; the air curtain and air distribution within the case; and lighting. To determine air curtain improvement potential, experimental data were taken on a display case air curtain using Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV). These data were used to calibrate a computational Fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the air curtain. Air curtain analyses using the CFD model showed that the ambient air entrainment could be reduced by at least 15%. Analytical modelling of all the EEMs cited above was undertaken using a calibrated supermarket model based upon DOE-2. Results suggested that implementation of the EEMs to all display cases in a store could reduce its refrigeration energy consumption by approximately 14.4 or 27.5 percent, depending on whether improved air curtains or glass doors are employed. Future efforts on the project will include fabrication and testing of 1 or more display cases that will implement the EEMs that produce greatest energy savings.
