Résumé

This study presents the annual operation profile of an average global container fleet. The profile is used for cycle simulations and calculation of the energy consumption and the total equivalent warming impact (TEWI) in order to compare different refrigerant options (CO2, R32, R134a, R290, R1270). The results show a promising potential for flammable refrigerants in terms of annual energy consumption savings, as well as reduction of TEWI and costs. On the other hand, the use of flammable refrigerants requires a detailed risk assessment to understand the different safety concerns for operation. The results of an operational mode risk assessment and a safety concept using flammable refrigerants are presented in the second part of this work.
