Résumé

In the family of LaFe(13–x)Si(x) alloys the Curie temperature can be adjusted in the range relevant for near-room temperature magnetic cooling by interstitial hydrogen insertion into the La(Fe,Si)13 lattice. Here, the authors demonstrate a simple, effective, low-temperature and readily available method for tuning the operation temperature of LaFe(13-x)Si(x)-type alloys via electrolytic hydriding. Materials processed by this significantly more economic procedure have the same high level magnetic properties as in high temperature gas-phase processed materials. In addition, they observe that due to a larger lattice-cell volume the ferromagnetic state promotes a higher hydrogen absorption rate due to more facile diffusion. This effect can only be exploited in low-temperature (electrolytic) hydriding.
