Résumé

Carambolas must be treated with an approved insect quarantine procedure such as cold treatment before shipment to certain markets. Results of treatment with ethylene and also with refrigeration, are given, concerning sensibility at various diseases. It is concluded that carambola fruit should be selected at harvest when 3-25% of the surface area is yellow (slightly yellow stage) instead of at the mature-green stage. Fruits to be cold-stored should not be treated with ethylene as this leads to enhanced mould development and severity of stem-end breakdown.
