Le CO2 utilisé comme frigorigène dans les congélateurs à plaques existants.

CO2 as refrigerant in new and existing plate freezers.

Résumé

A comparative analysis of CO2, ammonia and HFC-404A as refrigerants in plate freezers has been carried out. The results reveal that CO2, apart from offering an environmentally sound solution (locally and globally), also provide an improved operation of freezing equipment. The heat transfer coefficients are improved, the effective temperature loss due to pressure drop is less, energy consumption can be lowered, the evaporation temperature can be lowered to -55 °C and due to very high gas densities, the pressure losses in the system are significantly lower. On the other hand, one has to deal with a higher pressure on the low temperature side during defrosting and stand still. The paper describes the benefits that can be obtained with respect to improved freezing time and improved freezing capacity in self-contained plate freezer units and in pump circulated systems. Pressure drop, heat transfer, energy consumption as well as plate stress are evaluated in existing plate freezer systems retrofitted with CO2 and compared to ammonia and R404A. Alternative layouts and requirements to be met by the refrigeration plant due to the high pressure in new and existing freezing equipment are addressed.
