Effects of flow direction on indirect evaporative cooler performance.

Author(s) : KANG W. K., PARK J. S., LEE D. Y., et al.

Summary

Ren et al. analyzed the performance of indirect evaporative coolers as a function of flow direction considering the evaporation water flow and wetness. However, the effect of the number of transfer units (NTU) in each channel was not analyzed in detail. Therefore, we investigated theoretically the effect of the flow direction as the NTU in each channel was varied. The cooling process of the indirect evaporative cooler as a function of flow direction was modelled by a set of linear differential equations and solved to obtain exact solutions for the temperatures of the hot fluid, moist air, and water evaporation. Based on the exact solution for different NTUs in each channel, the authors studied the change in the temperature distribution for each flow direction and analyzed the effect of the flow direction on the cooling performance.
