Organisation
Management of the IIR is undertaken by the following three statutory bodies:
- The General Conference
- The Executive Committee
- The Management Committee.
The operation of the IIR Statutory Bodies is defined by an International Agreement signed on December 1, 1954, and General Regulations for the Application of the International Agreement signed on November 20, 1956.
The Science and Technology Council (STC) coordinates the scientific and technical activities of the Institute.
The General Conference
The General Conference defines the general policy of the IIR and consists of representatives appointed by Member Countries.
The General Conference meets once every four years during the IIR International Congress of Refrigeration.
The Executive Committee
The Executive Committee handles the administrative and financial aspects of the Institute. It meets once a year.
It consists of:
- A President, elected by the General Conference
- Three to six Vice-Presidents, elected by the General Conference
- The Delegates of the Member Countries.
The Executive Committee meetings also consists of:
- The President of the General Conference
- The President of the Science and Technology Council
- The General Director of the IIR.
The Management Committee
The Management Committee is responsible for the management of the IIR in between Executive Committee meetings. It meets twice a year.
It consists of:
- A President, who is also President of the Executive Committee
- Three members elected by the Executive Committee for a 4-year period
- Three members elected by the Science and Technology Council for a 4-year period.
The Management Committee meetings also consist of:
- The President of the General Conference
- The President of the Science and Technology Council
- The General Director of the IIR.
The Science and Technology Council (STC)
The Science and Technology Council coordinates the scientific and technical activities of the IIR.
These activities are divided into 10 Commissions, which are organised into 5 Sections.
The Science and Technology Council consists of:
- A President
- Vice-Presidents: Five Section Presidents and, when necessary, a Liaison Executive in relation to the next IIR Congress
- Ten members: The Presidents of the IIR Commissions.
The Science and Technology Council meetings also consist of:
- The President of the General Conference
- The President of the Executive Committee
- The Vice-Presidents of the Executive Committee
- The General Director of the IIR.
More information about the STC
The Science and Technology councill is elected every 4 years by the General Conference during the IIR Congress.
The STC appoints the commission secretaries as well as the commission members every 4 years, on the proposal of the country delegates and subject to validation by commission presidents.
Each member country up to date with its contribution is entitled to a number of commission members depending on its category of membership.
In addition, the member country may propose an equivalent number of junior commission members (maximum 35 years of age on the day of their nomination).
