Summary

Economizers which subcool the refrigerant liquid from the condenser, offer a substantial increase in refrigerating capacity with only a small increase in power input. Thus, an efficiency approaching that of a two-stage system can be obtained while retaining single-stage compression. The application and installation of an economizer is described in detail, and the obtainable effect is proven by a power balance calculation. A table gives a survey of dimensions, capacities and operation ranges of 21 models of the new screw compressor series.
