Summary

Measurements of acoustic insulation were performed in situ on four typical, recently constructed residential buildings in Italy, each with 12 to 34 apartments. Measurements of sound transmission loss (in accordance with ISO regulations) were done on façades, floor structures (both for airborne sound and impact sound transmission), vertical partition walls between different properties (airborne sound), and partition walls between a residence and the well of stairs (airborne sound). The noise level from the heating system (individual for each flat) and from the plumbing system is reported on, as well, and a cost analysis of the building structure elements, inclusive of the thermo-acoustic insulation system, is given.
