Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR PROPOSES A NEW CLOSED CRYOGENIC REFRIGERATING CYCLE, THE ADIABATIC EXPANSION-EXHAUST REGENERATIVE CYCLE, WHICH MAY BE CALLED A MODIFIED GIFFORD-MCMAHON (G-M) CYCLE. A CRYOCOOLER WITH THIS CYCLE HAS THE ADVANTAGES OF SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION, LONG UNATTENDED CONTINUOUS RUNNING TIME AND VIBRATION-FREE OPERATION. THIS CYCLE CAN BE USED IN ONE-STAGE OR MULTISTAGE CRYOCOOLERS. A COMPARISON BETWEEN THIS CYCLE AND THE G-M CYCLE, THE OPERATING PROCEDURE AND A THERMODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE NEW CYCLE ARE PRESENTED.
