Advanced pulse tube cold head development.

Author(s) : CHAN C. K., JACO C., NGUYEN T.

Summary

The 150 K PSC TRW miniature pulse tube cooler was developed in 1991 to provide long life cooling in space. To meet a new cooling load requirement of more than 200 milliwatts at 65 K, the authors began in January, 1995 to design, fabricate and test a cold head. A flight like cold head was designed, built and tested with an existing compressor. Their preliminary test of the cold head using an existing mini pulse tube compressor demonstrated that this new cold head has a cooling capacity of 410 milliwatts at 65 K for 21 watts of compressor shaft power.
