Algorithm for the modelling of the scroll compressor.

Author(s) : ATANASIU M., PRODAN M. M.

Summary

The concept of the scroll machine is basically simple and was the subject of a patent in 1905 by the French engineer Léon Creux. Even if the theory for the scroll compressor indicated a device potentially capable of reasonably good efficiencies, at that time the technology simply didn't exist to precisely manufacture the scrolls. The new CAM technology allows the performing new scroll types with high accuracy. By specifying a parameterization of the curve and combined with computer programming, it is possible to realize an algorithm that provides good approximation of the process that takes place in this type of machine. Hence, the authors performed some numerical simulations of a compressor pumping gas into a sealed reservoir. From these, they were able to establish the influence of scroll geometry on the compressors' performance.
