Summary

The author has been working for over ten years with research groups specialised in environmental control with a view to preserving cultural assets. These groups have been co-operating with other Italian universities, thus developing information that now forms part of technical standards. This article takes stock of the results achieved and focuses on the ideal environmental conditions for preservation and the methods and tools for environmental control. The article concludes with an outlook on the future.
