Summary

IT HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED THAT CRYOTHERAPY IS AN EFFECTIVE METH OD IN TREATING INOPERABLE RECTAL CARCINOMA. IN THE LAST 10 YEARS, 292 PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM RECTAL CARCINOMA WERE TREATED WITH LIQUID NITROGEN. FOLLOW-UP INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT AFTER CRYOTHERAPY THE TUMOUR AND THE SYMPTOMS DISAPPEARED IN 52 PATIENTS WITHCOMPARATIVELY EARLY RECTAL CARCINOMA, AND THERE WAS NO CARCINOMA CELL TO BE FOUND IN THE BIOPSY SPECIMEN. IN ANOTHER 240 PATIENTS OF ADVANCED RECTAL CARCINOMA, THE SYMPTOMS, FOR INSTANCE, LOCAL OBSTRUCTION AND PAIN, WERE RELIEVED IN VARYING DEGREES.
