Summary

THE PAPER OUTLINES THE BASIC STEPS AND PROCEDURES IN THE PRODUCTION OF A PROJECT ESTIMATE FOR THE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SERVICES OF A BUILDING. THE ESTIMATE MUST DEFINE THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT, ESTABLISH A TARGET BUDGET, ESTABLISH THE LIKELY CASH FLOW AND RATE OF RETURN, AND PROVIDE A BASIS FOR ACTUAL PROJECT COST CONTROL. THE ESTIMATE IS NOT FINAL, BUT NEEDS TO BE SUFFICIENTLY DETAILED TO MONITOR THE ACTUAL CONTRACT. GUIDELINES ARE GIVEN FOR COST ESTIMATING AND ILLUSTRATIONS SHOW THE FORMAT USED FOR SUMMARY TABLES AND DETAILED SHEETS FOR PIPING AND ELECTRIC CABLING. AN EXAMPLE IS INCLUDED OF THE FINAL SUMMARY SHEETS. D.W.H.
