Summary

THE PAPER PRESENTS CALCULATED DATA FOR ESTIMATING THE PROBABLE WALL CAVITY MOISTURE TRANSFER BY THE VARIOUS AIR EXCHANGE MODES: (1) ONLY THE CONVECTIVE AND THROUGH FLOW OF INSIDE AIR HAS THE POTENTIAL TO TRANSFER SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF MOISTURE INTO A CAVITY ; (2) OUTDOOR AIR FLOW THROUGH A CAVITY HAS A STRONG POTENTIAL TO DRY THE CAVITY ; AND (3) THE CAVITY DRYING POTENTIAL IN VERY COLD AND/OR IN HIGH AMBIENT HUMIDITY REGIONS IS MARKEDLY LOWER THAN THE POTENTIAL OF MORE MODERATE CLIMATE REGIONS.
