Summary

Modern building practices often demonstrate little regard for energy efficiency or the larger economic, environmental or social impacts of the built environment. In Jordan, the great development that has been witnessed in the last decades, and the growth of different economic sectors; all are interrelated with the continuously increasing consumption of energy and its resources. This research is aiming to design a green institute of cinematic art. The institute is located in Amman. The location of the green institute was selected to give awareness about the importance of green designs. This institute fulfills environmental design conditions by applying green technology and several techniques that aim to reduce energy consumption and pollution. Applying excellent insulation and natural cooling will reduce the energy consumption in the building. The refrigeration systems in the buildings almost consume high percent of the total energy in the commercial buildings. The green design can reduce the energy consumption and use natural sources to cover a lot of HVAC load. Several passive techniques have been implemented in this design such as; natural ventilation; deciduous trees and green roof. This work aims to provide an example model for sustainable urban settlements that include both passive and active energy systems.
