THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT A RING MAIN CHILLED WATER SYSTEM SUCH AS THAT INSTALLED ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS IS THE IDEAL CASE FOR USING THERMAL STORAGE TO DEAL WITH AN EXPANSION IN THIS IS PARTICULARLY VIABLE WHEN THE LOADS ARE DAYTIME ENVIRONMENTAL AND USER GAINS. TO MEET AN INCREASE, THE EXISTING CHILLER PLANT AND MAINS CAN CHARGE A WATER STORAGE TANK OVERNIGHT USING LOW TARIFF POWER. THE NEW LOAD IS THEN TAKEN WHEN REQUIRED FROM THE STORAGE TANK.
