Summary
Because of the possibility for storing cold heat, clathrate compound also gathers our intensive attention in addition to the technology using latent heat of ice. The article describes outline and characteristics of the compound including basic and preliminary explanation of the material. Then, a pilot plant developed as a part of the Moonlight project is introduced as a suitable example of its practical application concerning cold heat storage together with its performance testing results. In addition, a brief description on its other applications such as salt-to-fresh water distillation and compacted gas storage is given.
