Summary
Cold compressors, which compress helium vapour at around 4 K, cut necessary suction volume by a factor of five to ten. They also simplify the recovery of the enormous sensible heat of the helium between boiling and ambient temperatures. The paper presents current cold compressors, along with examples of their use.
