Comfort, preferences or design data?

Author(s) : WILLIAMSON T. J., COLDICUTT S., et al.

Summary

The authors present the results of analyses of more than 48,000 thermal sensation votes collected in recent Australian field studies, compare thermal sensation votes to the ISO 7730 PMV predictions and demonstrate consistent differences. They question the notion of neutrality seeking. Overall the empirical results indicate that the standard methods of thermal comfort estimation which provide a basis for the advice to designers are not sensitive to important context-relevant factors.
