Control options for various humidification technologies.

Author(s) : CLEMENS R. B.

Summary

With the increasing emphasis on indoor air quality, the crucial role that humidity control plays has only been heightened. In this paper, the effects of upgrading the controls on two-different types of humidifiers are reviewed. Self-contained electrode boilers are extremely popular in applications requiring pure humidification with a smaller load. Holding all variables constant, the effects of using on-off, proportional, and proportional+integral control in a small laboratory with two different exhaust air rates are reviewed. Air-water atomization has a tremendous following in the high-technology industries. However, its widespread application has been limited by misconceptions about its controllability. The possibilities of controlling the supply air humidity by increasing the control complexity from on-off to proportional to proportional + integral are reviewed.
