COOLING LOAD DESIGN ; RADIANT AND CONVECTIVE LOADS.

Summary

THE PAPER FOCUSES THE USE OF SEPARATED HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS FOR CONVECTIVE AND RADIANT HEAT TRANSFER VERSUS A LUMPED HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN WHICH THE RADIANT HEAT TRANSFER IS ADDED INTO THE CONVECTIVE TRANSFER. ROOM AIR AND INNER SURFACE RESPONSES FROM CONVECTIVE AND RADIANT LOADS ARE SHOWN. IF THE ROOM IS BASED ON OPERATIVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL THE DIFFERENCIES BETWEEN A SEPARATED HEAT TRANSFER AND A LUMPED TRANSFER ARE MINOR. HOWEVER, IF ROOM AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROL IS TO BE SIMULATED, THE LUMPED MODEL MAY GIVE SIGNIFICANT ERRORS.
