Summary

CALCULATION OF THE UPPER CRITICAL MAGNETIC FIELD H IN LAYERED SUPERCONDUCTORS IS REDUCED TO DETERMINATION OF THE MINIMIZED ENERGY IN AN EQUIVALENT PROBLEM OF BAND STRUCTURE OF A CHAIN OF COUPLED OSCILLATORS. FORMULES ARE DERIVED WHICH GIVE H AS A FUNCTION OF THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE FIELD AND THE PLANE OF THE LAYERS, THE THICKNESS AND OTHER PARAMETERS OF BINARY SYSTEMS AS WELL AS IN THE PRESENCE OF A FAULT IN THE PACKING OF LAYERS. H IS SHOWN TO CRITICALLY DEPEND ON THE PERFECTION OF STACKING.
