CRYOGENIC SYSTEM OF AN EXPERIMENTAL SUPERCONDUCTING TURBOGENERATOR.

Author(s) : KAISER Z., SMRZ S.

Summary

A 5 MVA EXPERIMENTAL SUPERCONDUCTING TURBOGENERATOR WAS BUILT. THE NIOBIUM-TITANIUM SUPERCONDUCTING WINDING IS LOCATED IN A HELIUM ROTARY CRYOSTAT WITH 415 MM DIAMETER AND 1,850 MM LENGTH. LIQUID HELIUM IS PUMPED INTO THE CRYOSTAT THROUGH THE ROTARY COUPLING OF A 20 L/H HELIUM LIQUEFIER. THE CRYOSTAT EFFICIENTLY COOLS THE SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET AND THE TORQUE TRANSMITTED IN THE PART MAINTAINED IN A TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 4.2 TO 80 K IS TWICE AND IN THE PART MAINTAINED IN A TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 80 TO 300 K THREE TIMES THE NOMINAL RATING.
