CRYOTHERAPY OF THE PRIMARY GLAUCOMA.

Author(s) : MATTHAUS W., KOZA K. D.

Summary

CYCLOCRYOTHERAPY IS A VERY EFFICIENT PROCEDURE WHICH DOES NOT CAUSE COMPLICATIONS. IT IS INTENDED FOR THE TREATMENT OF PRIMARY GLAUCOMA. IT INVOLVES THE STRICT RESPECT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY PARAMETERS, ESPECIALLY THE PRESSURE ON THE PUPIL. BY MAINTAINING A TEMPERATURE OF 133 K (-140 DEG C) FOR 28 SEC AND EXERTING A PRESSURE OF 150 PASCALS ONE OBTAINS, IN PATIENTS OVER 50 AND IN 90% OF CASES, A PERMANENT NORMALIZATION OF INTERNAL EYE PRESSURE. IN ADDITION, THE DISCOMFORT EXPERIENCED BY THE PATIENT IS MARKEDLY REDUCED. CYCLOCRYOTHERAPY CAN BE COMPARED TO A SURGICAL PROCEDURE AS REGARDS EFFICIENCY.
