IN CONTRAST TO EXISTING STANDARDS, ALL POLLUTION SOURCES ARE ACKNOWLEDGED, IE, BOTH THE OCCUPANTS AND THE BUILDING, INCLUDING FURNISHING, CARPETING AND THE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM ITSELF. THE REQUIRED VENTILATION IS CALCULATED BASED ON THE TOTAL INDOOR POLLUTION LOAD, THE AVAILABLE OUTDOOR AIR QUALITY AND THE LEVEL OF INDOOR AIR QUALITY SELECTED FOR DESIGN. THE AIM IS TO DESIGN FOR AIR QUALITY, NOT JUST FOR AIR QUANTITY. AN IMPORTANT POINT IS TO AVOIDPOLLUTION SOURCES IN THE AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM. THE PAPER DISCUSSES POTENTIAL POLLUTION SOURCES AND FUTURE MODIFICATIONS OF AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS TO MINIMIZE SUCH SOURCES.
