DISCUSSES THE MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL COMFORT, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE WORK BY FANGER. CONSIDERS THE SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE COMFORT EQUATION OF CLOTHING. QUOTES THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH AND PUTS THEM INTO A PLAN FOR DESIGNING FOR THERMAL COMFORT, WHERE THE ROOM IS DESIGNED TO BE REASONABLY THERMALLY UNIFORM, AS MANY OCCUPANTS AS POSSIBLE ARE PROVIDED WITH SOME ADJUSTMENT CAPACITY AND WITH PLENTYOF VARIATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT WITHIN A WIDE COMFORT BAND. STATES SEASONAL THERMOSTAT POINTS SHOULD BE ADJUSTED AND CONTROL BANDS BROADENED. CONSIDERS OPERATION FOR THERMAL COMFORT. PROVIDES SOME EXAMPLES OF BUILDINGS DESIGNED WITH THESE PRINCIPLES IN MIND.
