Summary

A new "helical blade" compression mechanism demonstrated the good performance essential for a quiet and high-efficiency compressor. The compressor is basically a rotary and positive-displacement-type machine which consists of a rotating cylinder and a rotating rotor piston with spiral blades. The paper presents a compression mechanism, a theoretical analysis of the performance and a prototype model design and performance. Testing results indicated that the performance of the prototype model remains nearly the same as that of current models of the rolling piston rotary compressors.
