Development of a Stirling cooler with a capacity of 15 W at 80 K.

Entwicklung eines Stirlingkühlers mit einer Kälteleistung von 15 W bei 80 K.

Summary

Currently available refrigeration technology was designed for other purposes and is not necessarily suited to high-temperature superconductors. The small Stirling cooler for infrared sensors has a capacity of up to 4 W and is relatively expensive. Gifford-McMahon coolers are the main ones used for higher capacities, but they do not necessarily correspond to the volume and mass needed. The new ILK15 Stirling cooler has a capacity of 15 W at 80 K at a drive-capacity of about 500 W. It takes 12 minutes for it to cool down to 80 K.
