Summary

THE PURPOSE IS BOTH THEORETICALLY AND EXPERIMENTALLY TO CLARIFY THE DYNAMIC STRESS OF A DISCHARGE VALVE WITH OVAL SHAPE, AND TO GET FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE FOR THE DESIGN CONCEPT OF THIS TYPE VALVE AND ITS RELATED PARTS. STRAIN MEASUREMENTS WERE PERFORMED ON THE STRAIN GAUGES BONDED ON THE SURFACE OF THE OVAL SHAPED VALVE. THE STRESS AND DEFORMATION OF THE VALVE WERE ALSO CALCULATED BY THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, UNDER VARIOUS DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURES BETWEEN DISCHARGE PLENUM AND CYLINDER AND UNDER A WIDE RANGE OF DRAG FORCES. COMPARING THE EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL RESULTS, THE DEFORMATION AND STRESS OF THE DISCHARGE VALVE WITH OVAL SHAPE ARE REVEALED UNDER VARIOUS COMPRESSOR OPERATING CONDITIONS. THE DESIGN CONCEPT ON THIS VALVE TYPE AND ITS RELATED PARTS IS ALSO DISCUSSED.
